As millions watched that bright, sparkling ball drop in Times Square last night and considered what 2011 will bring, others have looked at other shiny objects and already know.

Astrologers and psychic readers across the region have used star charts, ancient symbols and what they say are their own intuitive powers to predict the events of the coming year.

"These are times of incredible change and we're coming into, not a new age, but an age of spirit," said Barbara DeLong of Middlebury, a professional psychic reader who describes herself as a "spiritual empath."

"It means where once we were just focused on the physical reality — toys and money — that doesn't work anymore," she said. "There has to be a spiritual vein to what we do, a give-back aspect for everything in our life in order for things to flow as well and abundantly as we'd like."
